Chelsea entertain west London neighbours Queen’s Park Rangers tonight at, a sold out, Stamford Bridge. The current European Champions are on a fantastic run at the moment, having won their last four Premier League matches, scoring fourteen and conceding three. The in-form Blues will surely add to their goal difference tonight against, struggling, QPR.
It is not a coincidence that Chelsea’s return to form came with the return of Frank Lampard and the shift of David Luiz to midfield. Chelsea’s success ratios with Lampard and without Lampard are staggering. Surely Roman will offer this legend his new contract. If Lamps plays tonight and scores he will move to second equal, with Kerry Dixon, in our all time goals scored list. He is currently ten behind, leading scorer, Bobby Tambling! He will break that record this year.
Chelsea’s current form is even more impressive when you consider that three of the last four victories have come away from home. The win at Everton was hard fought and entertaining. Benitez showed his tactical nous changing formation after 20 minutes from 4-3-3 to 4-2-1-2-1, when he realised we were being overrun in midfield. After that we were more solid with Luiz and Lampard dovetailing superbly in the middle.
Our opponents tonight are having a nightmare season. They have only won once this season, at home to Fulham. The expected upturn in performances, following the appointment of Redknapp, has not materialised. QPR are in serious trouble and I cannot see where the points will come from. They face Chelsea tonight, followed by Tottenham, West Ham and Man City! They will definitely be up for it tonight following Sunday’s abysmal performance against Liverpool. Even their chairman chipped in with a comment about the dour display. I expect the first 10 minutes to be frantic but class will tell and Chelsea will win comfortably.
Following tonight Chelsea have a break from League matters with cup ties against Southampton and Swansea before returning to League action against Stoke City on 12th January 2013.
I would like to wish you all a very healthy and prosperous 2013 and lets hope Chelsea have a fantastic 108th year!!
