So far it’s been pretty quiet on the transfer-front a week into the January transfer window for Chelsea, but according to a report in the Express via Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth, the Blues are looking to potentially offload six players.

It’s been widely reported that Frank Lampard wants another striker this month and possibly even another defender, but trimming the current playing squad to make room for new additions will be key to the manager firmly putting his stamp on the squad this month.

The report claims that Chelsea are looking to sell or loan out Marcos Alonso, Emerson, Pedro, Olivier Giroud and quite surprisingly Ross Barkley and Michy Batshuayi – the latter would likely only leave if the club sign another top-class striker.

Both Emerson and Marcos Alonso have played this season but neither has been able to nail down that position,” Dharmesh Sheth told a recent transfer podcast via quotes in the Express.

Add to that Pedro’s contract is up in the summer and he’s started only four times in the league this season, there could be movement on him.”

Two more likely departures though are two strikers. Let’s start with Olivier Giroud, he’s another player whose deal is up in six months.”

He’ll be desperate for first-team football with the Euros coming up in France. So Giroud could be on his way out of Chelsea.”

Another man whose opportunities have been limited is Michy Batshuayi.”

CFCnet’s view of the six potential departures is that possibly only Pedro and Olivier Giroud will go. Michy Batshuayi would only be told he can leave if reinforcements are brought in, while it may be too expensive to sign a replacement left-back in January, so it’s more likely Alonso and Emrson could depart in the summer instead. Ross Barkley still has the backing of Frank Lampard and will surely be viewed as a strong squad player in the coming months.
