The end of August transfer deadline for clubs across Europe could yet represent an opportunity for the now seemingly ‘not in favour’ Ruben Loftus-Cheek, with the Mirror claiming that a loan-move to Spain’s La Liga is looking the most likely destination for the 22-year old midfielder.
The England international made a major impact and won plenty of plaudits in the gametime he got in the country’s path to the World Cup semi-finals in Russia, and after an impressive season on-loan at Crystal Palace, many Blues fans would have hoped to see him part of the first team match squads this season.
However, after being left out of the game against Arsenal altogether this past Saturday, talk is gathering that Ruben Loftus-Cheek will be heading out before the loan-window slams shut at the end of the month.
With Premier League clubs now unable to do business until January, a move overseas would seem the most likely next best option for the midfielder and Spain is favoured – although no club specifically has been named by the report in the Mirror.
The Telegraph on the other hand, suggests that Loftus-Cheek is wanted to stay and fight it out for Maurizio Sarri’s attention in the coming weeks and months – with players like Jorginho, Eden Hazard, Willian, N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacovic in the mix, the task for Loftus-Cheek looks difficult.
The feeling it seems is that the coaching staff at the Blues feel the England midfielder would be better suited remaining, learning Sarri’s style of play and integrating himself deeper in the former Napoli bosses plans – rather than go out on-loan for a season and learn from a completely other manager.
With just 10 days to go until the windows in Europe close, it won’t be long for the Blues fans to find out what will happen with arguably one of the prized assets, as well as that of England manager Gareth Southgate who will want him playing regular football.
