Chelsea are rocked by the news that academy breakthrough star Tariq Lamptey is on the verge of signing a pre-contract agreement to join French Ligue 1 side Lille.

The news reported via Sky Sports Transfer Centre states that Tariq Lamptey feels first-team options will be limited, with Reece James now breaking into the same position at right-back, and is looking at making a summer move to get games.

Englishman Lamptey, still only 19, made an impressive first team debut against Arsenal in December, helping the Blues to a 2-1 win away at the Emirates – the defender also featured in the FA Cup wins over Nottingham Forest and Hull.

The report, while a little thin on more detail, states that Lille are in the process of negotiating with Chelsea on a speedier deal, that could see Tariq Lamptey leave the club this week instead of the summer. If so, a transfer fee would have to be involved.
