Chelsea veteran star Willian has been impressing once again this season, admitting to feeling ‘happy’ and able to play with ‘freedom’.

The 31-year-old Brazilian is yet to be offered or put pen to paper on any new contract this season, and as things stand will be able to discuss terms with a new club as of January with his contract running down next June.

However, the feeling between Willian and new manager (former teammate) Frank Lampard seems positive and there will be real optimism that a deal can be struck, keeping the attacker at Stamford Bridge beyond 2020.

Speaking with Chelsea FC’s official website, Willian lavishes praise on Lampard but at the same time admits to it all feeling a ‘bit weird’ that his former teammate is now in-charge of his fate at the club;

He was an intelligent player, one of the best in his position.”

A quality player. When you see players like him you can say maybe in the future he can become a manager, and he’s here with us!

It’s a bit weird he is my boss now, but I am very happy to work with him again. He has given me the confidence to play. He wants me to be happy. A part of the performances I have had in the past couple of games I have to dedicate to him.”

He always says to me ‘I want you to be happy’. That’s why I have been playing like I have been.”

The freedom he gives to us is important as well. I don’t have to stay on the right side. I can move around, I can move between the lines, I can move to the left side as well.”

Willian has played the last four Premier League games for their entirety, scoring and assisting in the last two against Brighton and Southampton – results that have helped propel the Blues into fifth, just two points behind Manchester City in second place.
