Chelsea play French Ligue 1 side Rennes in Tuesday’s Champions League Group E, and should results go the Blues’ way, they will qualify with two games in-hand.
Speaking with gathered media ahead of Rennes vs Chelsea, Frank Lampard revealed (via Chelsea FC official) that injury news was positive and that Christian Pulisic could be back in in the Blues line up this upcoming weekend;
‘Kai [Havertz] and Thiago [Silva] both travel and they are fit for selection.’
‘Christian stays back and doesn’t travel but the good news he has had good progression in the last week. The reason he is staying back is to get some physical work in to hopefully have him ready for selection for this weekend and onwards.’
This will be just the second-time that Chelsea have lined up against Rennes in competitive history with the previous result (in this group) being 3-0 at the Bridge, with goals from Timo Wener and Tammy Abraham.
A win in Rennes on Tuesday would, for the first time since December 2015, see Chelsea win three Champions League matches in-a-row.
The Chelsea line up vs Rennes is likely to see a strong XI named to ensure the best chance of qualification early, with the likes of Cesar Azpilicueta, Kai Havertz, Jorginho and Thiago Silva all set to make the starting team sheet.
The front-three of Timo Wener, Tammy Abraham and Hakim Ziyech looks set to be retained after impressing in the win this past weekend.
