This might be a shorter game summary then usually because as we all know by now Chelsea have some bigger problems to attend to nevertheless the game that caused these problems shall be reviewed.
Going into their last Champions league away tie of the group stage Chelsea were in a slump and needed the 3 points. RDM even dropped Torres and started with a more defensive selection by starting; Ivanovic, Luiz, Cahill, Cole, Mikel, Ramires, and Azpilicueta. The pre game build up was huge and Juventus were also in dire need of 3 points, with them facing elimination.
As the game kicked off Chelsea started on the counter attack as a great run by Oscar, followed by a nice layoff for hazard and a saved shot by Buffon. It was a high tempo game however Hazard who originally shot the ball should have made it 1-0. As the game progressed Juventus had all the position as Chelsea’s Trio could not get a snip of the ball. Chelsea had other chances on the counter attack but failed to capitalize as sloppy mistakes cost them. Fast forward to the 38th minute as Quagliarela picked up the ball around the 40 yard line and drove in a weak shot which was deflected and thus glided by Cech.
As the second half started came RDM decided to get more offensive and subbed of Azpilicueta who had been doing a great job on Asamoah for Moses. The game was still slow until the 61st minute when Asamoah had finally gotten on the ball and assisted an Arturo Vidal goal. At this point Chelsea were defeated, you could see it in the teams face, and you could see it in the managers face, as insult to injury came when Giovinco made it 3-0 in the 89th minute.
Fast forward hours and RDM was sacked, with Chelsea failing to win in their last 5 matches and having to hope on a Juventus result against Shakhtar, they face their lowest point of the season.
