Football has been in the limelight recently for all the wrong reasons and now on Friday morning, another awful set of incidents has emerged to put the game to shame once again. After Chelsea supporters recently racially abused a man attempting to get on to a train, a series of videos have come out that is evidently an act of sexist abuse.
One video shows Chelsea’s female physiotherapist Eva Carneiro walking along the side lines after treating an injured Chelsea player, and sections of the crowd chanting “get your t*** out for the lads”. It is thought that the video’s that were screened on The BBC, were sung by Manchester United and Manchester City supporters.
It is an act of abuse and an act of prejudice, it’s showing that a section of today’s football supporters STILL won’t allow equality in the game, even in 2015. It’s a sad state of affairs for the so called beautiful game. In other incidents, reports have circulated that a female linesman has received similar chants in the Premier League this season.
It’s all very 1990s and has no place in today’s sport. Chelsea’s Carneiro is a hugely respected doctor and is very popular amongst the Chelsea supporters. As well as being passionate about Chelsea, she’s always smiling and has worked miracles on Chelsea players for years.
It is yet to be seen as to whether these particular incidents will be investigated by the FA, but they have stated that if anyone witnesses such abuse, to report it to the authorities straight away. Meanwhile, Chelsea have issued a statement saying that there is no place for sexism in football and it will not be tolerated.
