The big question for the first full week of 2022 is, will Romelu Lukaku be at Chelsea beyond this transfer window?

Having arrived under much fan-fare in the summer for just shy of £100million from Inter Milan, the Belgian superstar is set for showdown talks today with Chelsea management to decide where the situation goes from here.

Pundits are calling for an outright apology from Romelu Lukaku after his comments to Italian media suggested he wants to go back to Inter Milan and is ‘not happy’ at Chelsea.

Thomas Tuchel told media after the club’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool that things will progress on Monday, one way or the other;

We will decide it tomorrow [Monday], have a meeting from there and inform you.

In a further quotes carried by the Mirror, Lukaku’s former teammate at Everton Tim Howard revealed that the two had spoken via text and that the striker is alleged to have said and hinted that that this may be a situation that is close to a full breakdown between club and player;

I can’t say too much.

The situation is hot. I have another meeting on Monday. After that, I can say more.”

Lukaku has seven goals this season for the Blues, but will he get the chance to score again for the club? This is very much a ‘stay tuned’ situation that we’ll be reporting on until a resolution is found.
