Lampard in action versus West Ham Utd

Monday 27 January
Chelsea U21 0:1 Arsenal U21 (aet)
Ah ffft, the under 21s were unlucky to crash out of the first U21 cup competition after a very strong line up could not find a way through a stubborn Arsenal. That we shipped a fluky goal in extra-time will only make them more glum. Time to pick yourselves up boys.
Michael Essien completed his move to AC today. He had nothing but good things to say about us and we have nothing but good things to say about him. He was simply one of the finest people ever to pull on a blue shirt. Michael was unlucky with injuries that robbed him of the chance to be more influential but his highlights in blue were many and we thank him for them.

Tuesday 28 January
Romelu Lukaku suffered most in Blue as Everton came apart at the seams at Anfield. Our on loan Belgian striker was clattered by his own team mate and suffered ankle ligament damage. He will be out for weeks.
Juan Mata looks a good footballer after tonight’s performance for mid-table United. It has been difficult to open a paper for the last few days without seeing his face adjacent the wrong shirt.
Better news at the top where Arsenal drew away to Southampton. In recent years this kind of slip has seen Chelsea sides skid too, let’s hope Jose Mourinho is working his best voodoo on West Ham tomorrow night.

Wednesday 29 January
Chelsea 0:0 West Ham United
19th Century football deserves a better name than this West Ham performance. They barely ventured over the half-way line as we racked up nearly 40 attempts at goal. Whisper it but we needed a subtle player with the guile to unlock tight defences.
Oscar’s early shot on to the crossbar suggested a frustrating night and so it proved. John Terry, Samuel Eto’o Demba BA, Frank Lampard all had chances saved or off the post and a more consistent referee might have sent off O’Brien for a savage assault on Willian.
Ultimately this result means little, we travel to the Etihad on Monday charged with getting a result. If we are to stand a chance of winning this league we will have to because they don’t look like slipping up and when they do referees are on hand to award penalties and send off opponents.

Better news from Merseyside where Romelu Lukaku is expected to be out for weeks not months with the ankle problem that saw him out of the derby early yesterday.

Thursday 30 January
Billy Clifford has joined Royal Antwerp for the rest of the season. Billy should be able to stretch his legs in the Belgian 2nd division under one Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.
Jonathan Muleba has joined AFC Bournemouth permanently on a two-and-a-half-year deal. Jon, 18, was our youth team captain this season and was clearly drawn by Bournemouth’s recent record of bringing players through to the first-team. We wish him well.
Also going to Belgium is Lamisha Musonda who has joined first division KV Mechelen until the end of the season.

Friday 31 January
The deadline day shuffle brings Kurt Zouma, 19, from St Etienne for something in the region of £12m. The much-sought France U21 international will remain on loan with his former club until the summer.
Gaël Kakuta’s quest will continue with Lazio in Rome. Kakuta was the bright young thing when he started to break through four years ago but now 22 has struggled to impose himself. He was effective for Vitesse last season but has been troubled with injury. We sincerely hope he makes his mark and finally shines the way we know he can.
The U21 fixture at Cobham tonight against West Brom was cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch.

Saturday 1 February
Southampton U18 2:1 Chelsea U18
A second-half Charlie Colkett penalty wasn’t enough to save a point as a young developing team lost in a rain storm on the south coast.

Tony Hateley has died aged 72. Tony was the big money striker brought in to cover Peter Osgood when god was out with a broken leg. Hateley stayed for just one season before moving on to Liverpool but he did score the goal that got us to the 1967 FA Cup Final – about which the least said …
Manchester United tried their new attacking line-up today with Mata, Rooney and Van Persie in the same side only for Stoke City to score the goals to win 2-1.
