Didier Drogba and stand in captain, Frank Lampard gave Chelsea fans some Xmas cheer yesterday. Didier got into the Xmas spirit early with a text book header after just 4 minutes. (Incidentally this was Didier’s first goal of the Premiership campaign.) Chelsea continued to look dominant without actually moving up to top gear. Lampard scored before halftime to put the game beyond West Brom.
It was interesting to see Phil start with a 4-4-2 formation with Anelka and Drogba leading the attack. Some fans were pleasantly surprised by the omission of Deco. Deco did enter the fray after 79mins. Coming on for Joe Cole. I heard a few boos when his name was mentioned but it was only two or three people.
However the first Premiership home win since November the first wasn’t the Xmas miracle. What emanated from the Shed End towards the end of the game was.
On 85 minutes just as the game was just entering the final stages something remarkable happened… The Shed erupted into life. It had threatened to a few times during the game. But in this instance the West side took on the mighty Shed middle in a verbal fight. Reminiscent of my early days in the Shed End.
It made the day for me as just recently I’ve become more and more disillusioned with the Chelsea experience. People don’t seem to enjoy watching Chelsea anymore. There’s so much swearing and muttering about some of the players that people seem to be in a bad mood all of the time. But for the few minutes that followed I saw smiles on people’s faces. Some people were actually laughing. Laughing at a Chelsea home match, Truly remarkable. A real Xmas miracle!
