Fellow Chelsea supporters, deadline day is upon us, one of the most exciting days of the season has arrived. Already we have seen some shock moves and it seems Manchester City are going to be busy today, with Mancini confirming he will be signing 5 more players.
But enough about other teams, I will be trying to dig into Chelsea related transfer news and giving you anything I find out during the day. At this point, it’s very quiet, I’d honestly be surprised if we do sign anyone else today unless the right deal comes up at the right price.
Hulk has announced he is staying at Porto with an improved salary being agreed. A silly move from Porto, the player clearly wants to leave, he came out and said it. Instead of cashing in on him like they could have, they will now lose him next season for less money. Another Modric saga I’m afraid. I understand that Chelsea did make an offer, as well as Zenit, but both bids got rejected by Porto and Chelsea refused to up their offer.
Liverpool want to sign Daniel Sturridge, again I’d be surprised if this went through, but if it does, Chelsea will surely have to sign a new striker. It is believed that we have Andre Schurrle lined up in a dramatic deadline day deal. Metro say that Chelsea have re-opened talks with Bayer Leverkusen regarding a move for Schurrle. The player himself wants out, but his club have previously stated he was not for sale. But as we all know, money talks in this business and the German international is our most likely signing today.
Chelsea had been linked with Marseille striker Loic Remy, but this is not a very strong rumour and I don’t think there is too much in this. He has stated allegedly that he is in talks with Tottenham, although Villas-Boas has denied this. In this case I think the player will stay with his club. But anything can happen and it could be a ploy from Villas-Boas to put Chelsea off the scent and from making any kind of move for Remy. We’ll see what happens there.
Finally for now, Arsenal are being linked with Michael Essien. The Guardian claim that Essien will be ‘hobbling through the Emirates stadium tonight’, as the gunners are the only club willing to pay his price tag and medical bills. This one I actually wouldn’t be surprised if it happened, Essien is struggling here big time and Arsenal are looking desperate. Wenger could be the man to turn the Ghanaian’s fortunes around, although I hope to god that doesn’t happen for Chelsea’s sake.
