Good evening Blues and welcome to Friday’s transfer news update from CFCnet, where we take a look at the potential arrivals, departures and done deals at Stamford Bridge this summer.
It’s been a rather quiet couple of days surrounding Chelsea transfer news as Jose Mourinho seemed to put a block on any more signings by claiming that his squad is complete and he does not need anyone else. Albeit it a couple of desperate rumours from some press sources discussing the likes of Jose Callejon joining, there is not much to report. Callejon by the way is a nothing rumour, I don’t see anything in this at all.
Now we are all playing the guessing game, is this one of Mourinho’s ploys to throw the scent off any current targets, like John Stones for example? Is this his way of playing it cool and not allowing prices to be inflated by pretending he can take it or leave it? Or is he simply being honest by claiming that he is happy with his current squad? This wouldn’t be the first time he has spoken in public about transfers and then done the opposite.
Well, I think it’s a bit of all of the above. If a player comes on the market for the right price and Moruinho admires him, there will certainly be temptations and he certainly wants Stones. But perhaps he is tactically backing off after laying down the foundations for the deal. He is happy with the squad, that’s plain to see. But will there be another shock signing or two before the window closes? Always likely.
One thing for sure is that Filipe Luis is leaving, this has been confirmed by Mourinho himself. So we will surely be needing a replacement right? Of course. But don’t expect any deals to be done until Luis officially leaves the club.
It appears the front runner to come in and replace the Brazilian is Augsburg full back Baba Rahman, who is keen on the move. His club had already rejected a first approach from Chelsea but are willing to listen to another offer. Some reports are suggesting that a deal is already in place and terms are agreed for a five year deal. But nothing will be official until Luis departs.
Oh and in case you missed it – John Obi Mikel has confirmed that he is staying at the club, meaning any new midfielders are now highly unlikely.
That’s it for now Blues, but remember to follow my Twitter here for the latest Chelsea news @cfcneteditor
