With only six days remaining of the transfer window it is becoming increasingly unlikely that Chelsea will be doing any more business during this window. Having said that, with the current state of affairs at the club, I would fully expect Roman and his team to be working hard behind closed doors to pull off possibly one more shock signing, in an attempt to bring a few smiles back to The Bridge.
I believe we could see another deadline day buy, a player who has yet to be mentioned with The Blues. I have no sources as to who this maybe, but there is whispers that there might be a midfielder coming in, especially with David Luiz out injured currently and Frank Lampard leaving in the summer.
Everton’s Marouane Fellaini has been the strongest link during this window, but unfortunately L’Equipe sourced a story that was wrong this time. You would be forgiven if like myself, you found a good route for the story from this particular source, after all they are usually spot on and have got it right on so many occasions before now.
Fellaini does have a release clause of £22 million and there is no doubt we will be matching that in the summer when the clause comes into affect. But we must ensure Champions League qualification, because the clause states only to a CL playing club. So I fully expect this to be completed this summer, providing we can qualify (I can’t believe I am typing that sentence!)
There are still rumours flying around about the likes of Paulinho, who has just been given a price tag by his club of £15 million. Seems they might be willing to sell this window, but again, highly unlikely.
Shakhtar Donestsk attacker Willian is another player continually linked with a move to The Bridge and again is certainly a possibility. Rumours have it that we have made a recent £20 million offer for the 24-year-old and he definitely wants out of his club. I’m sure this won’t be the last we hear about this in January and could potentially be another deadline day coup.
Meanwhile, we are still following Leverkusen striker Andre Schurrle, who is looking ever impressive for his club this season. It will be a case of if we can’t sign Radamel Falcao in the summer, then Schurrle is the backup option, simple as that.
So, are the club about to attempt to ease the doom and gloom surrounding the Bridge with a major signing before Thursday? Although unlikely, I can still see it happening, we shall wait and see.
Finally, un-related to transfer news but I thought you’d be interested anyway. As you are aware by now I am currently located in Brazil travelling and writing. I am off to watch Botafogo Vs Fluminense on Sunday and will be bringing a live tactical analysis of our new signing, 18-year-old Full Back Wallace Dos Santos, who is joining us in the summer (deal already agreed). So keep an eye out for that.
