Two players rejected Chelsea move amid doubts over Conte’s future – Monday 11th December
According to a report today in the Metro, two unnamed players (who were likely top targets) rejected the chance to move to Chelsea this past summer due to lingering doubts around the future of manager Antonio Conte.
The long-term future of Conte appears to be even more unclear heading into the second half of the season with the club way behind league leaders Man City and if the report is true then the January window could be tricky if players have an affinity to play for Conte.
Blues to go head-to-head with Barcelona for midfield ace – Friday 8th December
Barcelona are seemingly the designation of choice for Gremio midfielder Arthur after being pictured in the Catalan giants kit, but Chelsea are set to enter the race and try to convince the 21-year old his future is in west London.
Interestingly the player has a £44m release clause in his current deal with the Brazilian side, which in the current state of the transfer market would seem a fair price for a premium midfielder (via Mirror).

Chelsea apparently turned down the chance to sign James Rodriguez from Real Madrid in the summer, despite Madrid strongly pushing the Blues to sign the Colombian from them.

Hazard and Sandro Transfer Developments – Tuesday 5th December

Chelsea Transfer History
This past summer saw manager Antonio Conte sign no less than £186 million in talent to strengthen the push to retain the Premier League title and kick on in the Champions League. The biggest outlay of the summer was on Alvaro Morata for around £60m – and all Blues faithful know how well that’s going! One of the major outs of Chelsea’s recent past was icon Diego Costa – a star in winning the Premier League in the 16/17 season but a falling out with club management saw the Spanish international head for Atletico Madrid. The loss of John Terry on a free transfer was one that all fans had to get used to but most Chelsea fans believe he will end up back at Stamford Bridge in a coaching capacity sooner rather than later.
Chelsea Transfer Records
Chelsea may not be the biggest spenders in world football but fans are usually treated to major marquee signings and it’s never too long to wait for the Chelsea transfer news to break and Stamford Bridge to be treated to yet another world class star.
The biggest outlay in club history was on Alvaro Morata for just short of £60m, but then you would have to go back to the 2010/11 season for the last time the Blues broke their transfer record – yes that’s right it was the £52.m spent on Fernando Torres from rivals Liverpool.
The biggest Chelsea transfer in the first full season of the Abramovich rule was Damien Duff from Blackburn, in the 2002/03 season for what was a considerable £22.5m spend. The following season Chelsea signed Didier Drogba for £34.65m – the rest you can say is history!
