Good morning and welcome to the weekends transfer news update from CFCnet, where we take a glance at the latest potential arrivals and departures at Stamford Bridge this coming summer transfer window.
First up, we carry on from our reports yesterday of strong interest in Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann. The player himself has come out and stated that he is open to a move to the Premier League champions potentially paving the way for the move to actually go ahead.
The Blues are certainly in for a striker and if the fee is decent, this move may well go ahead. If not then Chelsea are still in for a number of other forwards including Aston Villa hit man Christian Benteke who is the subject of interest from a number of the top five English clubs. It is expected that an offer of around £30 million might persuade Villa to cash in and use the money in a rebuild over summer after another disappointing relegation battle this season.
Once again further to our reports yesterday of solid interest in 20-year-old Everton defender John Stones, it has now transpired through further reports that the club are actually in talks with Everton regarding the England International’s availability and could be about to make a £20 million offer. Like I’ve stated yesterday, I’m not adverse to this move and can certainly see the long term potential in this player who has the talent and is also home grown.
Petr Cech is still wanted at Chelsea! This comes as no surprise, of course Jose Mourinho wants to keep his number two at Stamford Bridge, who is still one of the best keepers in the world. However, Cech will still leave as he craves and deserves first team football. Mourinho also states that he will “not let Cech join Arsenal, if it’s his decision”. The key point there is he said ‘IF’, which worries me ever so slightly insinuating it is not down to him and perhaps covering himself from the backlash that will come if he does join another Premier League side.
Another possible departure is highly rated young Belgium Charly Musonda. The 18-year-old has been a key feature in the youth setup and is predicted to have a big future in football. Thankfully however, the move will only be a loan as the Blues look to send him out for first team experience to high profile French club Monaco.
Finally for now, out of favour Barcelona winger Pedro is once again being touted for a move to Chelsea this summer with apparent interest from the Blues. The Spanish International has been pretty much playing second fiddle in La Liga this season but could well be an excellent capture for Chelsea who are looking for more quality in that area. £22 million is the reported fee but their is also interest from Arsenal and Inter Milan.
