After being absent for a short while, this week sees the return of my ‘Transfer Update’ feature. Although the window is closed, there is still a lot going on in transfer world, especially if your name is Roman Abramovich and you have the headache of a certain £50 million striker who is still struggling to really nail down that main striker role as his own.
Fernando Torres is on 4 goals already this season, which is pleasing to see, but he is still playing without the confidence and finesse that we have all seen him do on many occasions for Liverpool and Spain. We are all desperate as supporters, to see him play like that again and be our main man, but unfortunately supporters and Chelsea staff alike, seem to be losing patience.
So up step Radamel Falcao? It would seem that this rumour is hotting up by the day, the latest coming from an inside Chelsea source via The Sun. The source apparently claims that we are already putting down the ground work for the Falcao deal, in an attempt to get the deal sorted out before any other clubs come on for him. I realise that this is not from the most reliable source and normally I would dismiss this, but this is not the first I’ve heard of it, I am also hearing from various other of my own sources that Chelsea are in fact working on a £45 million deal with Madrid, to secure the signing of Falcao in January.
This is music to most Chelsea supporters ears, after all, this man is a true prolific centre forward goal scoring machine, who seems to be able to do anything. With him up top, supported by the likes of Hazard, Mata, Oscar, Moses, Marin and Piazon, then surely here we will have an unstoppable goal getting Chelsea attack.
Next up, Marouane Fellaini of Everton, we’ve all heard the rumours that he wants to leave Goodison in January and we all know that he is very much on our shortlist. I am aware that we will be making at least an enquiry for the midfielder in January, but then again, so will 4 or 5 other clubs. I feel that with Falcao as our number one target, we may not have the money to stretch to Fellaini, but then again, since when has Roman worried about money? Especially if he can get Fellaini for around £15 million, which is the fee being talked about right now.
Sergio Ramos, a world class defender, I’m pretty sure that many would agree with that statement, even if the word’s ‘world class’ are hugely over used in football. But this Spanish international deserves this tag, a player that supporters would love to see at our club. There are various rumours floating around that since he had a bust-up with Jose Mourinho, Chelsea will now be moving in for him in January. But unfortunately this is merely speculation and I’m pretty certain that it won’t happen. Madrid will not allow him to leave and I am pretty sure that their differences will be solved sooner rather than later.
This brings me to ‘The Special One’ himself, a true Chelsea hero, a man who would be welcomed back to the Bridge in an instant. There is more and more talk around my sources everyday that Mourinho could well return to Chelsea, all depending on how this season goes for Di Matteo. This talk would be considered disrespectful to RDM and you’d be right, it is, but you simply cannot hide the fact that Mourinho has stated he wants to return to England as manager and we all know he has unfinished business here. I’m dying for RDM to succeed, I really am, but with Mourinho waiting in the wing, let’s just say I wouldn’t be ‘upset’ if he did come back.
Finally, Ihab Naser. Sorry who? Yes, I also asked that question when I was told that we had signed this player. Well, he is a 15-year-old Swedish youth international who has been given a trial with Chelsea. I can’t really tell you much about him, because I don’t really know much. What I do know is that he is considered a hot prospect in his homeland, he is an attacking player, and he has already scored for us in a behind closed doors friendly against Crystal Palace. There might well be another trial arranged for the youngster, or Chelsea may have seen enough and offer him a contract. I’ll keep you updated on this.
