After a successful (result wise) first league game of the season for the blues, it is evident that we still need to strengthen the ‘couple of positions’ that Ron Gourlay spoke of a few weeks back.
Chelsea did the job on Sunday and their were some very impressive performances, especially from new boy Eden Hazard, who looks every bit the class player that supporters are expecting to see. Ivanovic scored and did ok, but to me he looked liable. Both Wigan wingers had a go at him and both got the better of him at times. We need that right back.
So the latest on Azpilicueta? Nothing official but I’ve heard whispers that he will be a Chelsea player by next weekends game in time to play, but not for the mid week clash with Reading. I’m being told that there are a few folds to be ironed out in the deal, but it is still expected to be tied up this week.
Ramires was ill on Sunday, but would have probably played on the right wing, which we all know is my other concern. I just have a general concern about our right side which I think I might have mentioned once or twice before! I did however have a thought; Chelsea would be more than capable using Hazard, Mata, Oscar and Marin as the four main options across the attacking midfield line with any one of those 4 being able to play in the hole or out wide. I’d be confident using them all in any of the positions. So do we need Hulk? Especially when you also have Bertrand and Piazon knocking strongly on the door for those positions too?
Everyone knows that I rate Hulk, but if we are buying him as a winger, then maybe he will reduce starting chances for the likes of Oscar and Marin. Or maybe we need him to rotate with all the fixtures we play. But I do not want to see limited chances for our new young exciting players. I believe we’ll be signing Hulk above anyone else for his versatility. For another option up top.
I think we’d benefit more from a deeper lying play maker, someone who plays similar to Alonso from Real Madrid. Chelsea struggled to keep hold of the ball on Sunday and that’s been a downfall for sometime. In tight areas, we lose the ball. We need someone holding the back of the midfield just calming things down, picking out passes and breaking up play. That’s just my opinion.
Cavani rumour is circulating again. Chelsea are very much keeping their options open, mainly so they will not be held to ransom in negotiations. I really believe that we will only sign one of three out of Hulk, Moses or Cavani. It certainly won’t be all 3 and I even doubt it will be 2 of 3. I still feel it will be Hulk and Azpilicueta arriving before August 31st.
Along with that, the Stevan Jovetic rumour is doing the rounds once again, but this one is purely just a rumour, Chelsea are not in negotiations with Fiorentina for this player, as far as I am aware.
Luka Modric again? This one made me chuckle. There are sources saying that he has pretty much joined Real Madrid, yet we were being told that he was being offered to Chelsea by Daniel Levy. No, he wasn’t and no we don’t need or want him.
I still feel a surprise signing could happen. Someone who hasn’t even been linked with us at all, a player who we thought we’d never even look at. It’s set for an exciting last couple of weeks of the window.
Final thought, how good did Victor Moses look on Sunday? I was very impressed.
