Good evening Blues and welcome to Monday’s version of the transfer news update from CFCnet, where we take a look at the latest potential arrivals, departures and done deals at Stamford Bridge this summer.
Fist up, confirmation of the signing of goalkeeper Asmir Begovic from Stoke, that’s been officially revealed today by Chelsea.
As expected the Blues have paid Stoke £8 million for the 28-year old Bosnian International and loaned Marco Van Ginkel in return.
Begovic is a great keeper and what a backup option to have. He is here to challenge though and not just make up the numbers so we could see some healthy competition in the ranks. All in all, a great signing for the club.
Meanwhile Barcelona winger Pedro admits that he has received offers to leave now that his buyout clause has been lowered but did not confirm any more other than that. The Spaniard has apparently been talking with Cesc Fabregas about joining him at Chelsea and he wants Champions League football.
Personally, I’ve heard reasonable sources say that terms have been agreed with Chelsea and Pedro however, I’ve also heard the opposite from sources who are also reasonably well trusted. So this one is up in the air but is certainly gathering solid pace.
Finally, according to BBC Sport, John Obi Mikel will not be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge during this transfer window, being told that he is still part of the Manager’s plans.
Mikel wants to leave after growing frustrated about sitting on the bench but Mourinho wants to keep him. Although, the report further suggests that any offers made to Chelsea by any potential suitors have not met their valuation anyway, suggesting that if the right offer did come in then they may listen. We shall see.
That’s it for now Blues but remember to follow my Twitter here for the very latest Chelsea news @cfcneteditor
