Good evening blues and welcome to Tuesday’s transfer news update from CFCnet as we take a look at the potential arrivals and departures at Stamford Bridge this coming transfer window.
First up, the deal for Radamel Falcao has been agreed and confirmed! The Colombian will be a Chelsea player this season. Sky Sports have confirmed that the season long loan deal has been completed for the 29-year old striker.
It’s a great coup, I’ve been a supporter of this move since it was announced. Getting a player of this caliber on loan is a no brainer. Falcao is a goal scorer and although he has had a poor season at Manchester United, Mourinho can get blood out of a stone and will certainly get him back to his best. We are not spending any money so do not have to consider Financial Fair Play but we are getting a world class striker with no strings attached.
Meanwhile, reports around England have stated that Chelsea too have joined the race to sign want away Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling. The England International is said to be available for £50 million after Liverpool rejected an offer of around half of that from Manchester City at the weekend. We knew that Chelsea had an interest but it appears that their is some pace gathering behind this now.
I’ve said all along that if Sterling is willing to join Chelsea, we should be making an offer. His prospects are huge and he is English. With an attacking three of Willian, Hazard and Sterling that would be frightening aspect of speed and direct attacking for any defence and the fact he is available, his talent is far too good to ignore. If he joins City, it’ll come back to haunt Chelsea. He should be a priority I feel.
Another priority should be Paul Pogba. His club’s president has confirmed that he is likely to be leaving Juventus this summer with Barcelona heavily chasing his tail. But Chelsea have the advantage of being able to offer a midfielder in return in the shape of Oscar, who is wanted by Juventus and could take the fee down a considerable amount. Ramires would also be wanted by Juventus and could be used as a make weight for any deal.
For me, if the three new players arriving this summer were the above mentioned, then we’d be sitting in a perfect pole position to win the league again next season and seriously challenge for the Champions League. Whether Financial Fair Play would allow us to do these deals however, is yet to be seen. But we do need to be aware of this as do we need to be looking at the home grown quota rules, hence why Sterling would be a great coup.
Finally, as you will all be aware, goalkeeper Petr Cech is close to joining Arsenal and Loic Remy will likely be leaving now Falcao has signed. However, Mourinho has hinted that if Arsenal want to sign Cech, there might have to be a player offered in return and could that player be Theo Walcott? One to ponder about and leave you with for now….
