Good evening Blues and welcome to Friday evenings transfer news update from CFCnet, where we take a look at the latest potential arrivals, departures and done deals at Stamford Bridge this summer as the window is only days away.
Well, the predictable has happened today at the press conference of Manager Jose Mourinho. As expected, the Blues Boss has kept his cards close to his chest and refused to comment on any potential transfers.
He did once again reiterate that he is happy with the current squad, however he also hinted that there could be more signings and that could even happen on deadline day. He told Sky Sports “If we don’t make deadline day exciting, then I’m sure you will”.
One point worth noting – the last time he claimed he was happy with his squad, we went out and signed Pedro from Barcelona!
I feel that this is not the end of Chelsea’s spending and we certainly have not heard the last of John Stones and Paul Pogba this window – who remain the two main targets.
Everton are holding firm on Stones but according to the press, Chelsea are negotiating a deal with Juventus with Paul Pogba that may well go down to the deadline day wire.
Ezequiel Garay and Raphael Varane are both thought to be alternatives being explored at centre back by Chelsea. Garay could be reachable but I can’t see Varane being able to leave this summer.
Along with that there is an apparent claim that Chelsea are working on making the signing of a player who has been described as ‘The Chinese Sergio Ramos’, which I find very entertaining!
Zhang Linpeng has been quoted by a Chinese newspaper as saying he is happy to be invited to play for Chelsea. The right sided defender will take time to obtain a work permit so may not be able to play right away, but the 26-year old is expected to sign before the transfer deadline.
Finally – it is apparent that Chelsea are seeking to sign young English talent and with Stones seemingly slipping away, there are claims that they are keen to sign Charlie Austin from QPR, as reported previously during this window.
The interest has again come up according to reports from The Daily Express, who say that Chelsea are the front runners for the signature of the English forward who is valued at £15 million by his club.
I can only see the latter happening if Loic Remy leaves, which of course is very possible having not featured at all yet this season and seemingly behind both Diego Costa and Radamel Falcao.
That’s it for now Blues, but remember to follow my Twitter here for the very latest Chelsea news @cfcneteditor
