Good evening Blues and welcome to Saturday evening’s transfer news update from CFCnet, where we take a look at the latest possible arrivals, departures and done deals at Stamford Bridge this summer.
Well, the biggest news today revolves around Everton and England defender John Stones, who has emerged as Chelsea’s number one target this summer.
The Blues have had a £20 million offer rejected by Everton but are expected to move back in with a £30 million offer – all this has been confirmed by Jose Mourinho this Saturday afternoon. He says that although Everton can reject the initial offer, Chelsea will move back in with more money. They’re refusing to give up on this target.
Roberto Martinez is angered by Chelsea’s pursuit claiming that it is unsettling the young versatile defender.
My take on this? Stones is an excellent player and certainly one I’d love to see come in and be the one to take over from John Terry, especially the fact he is home grown. People say he is still young and not developed, but I argue that point and look at situations like Michael Owen, who scored at 18-years old for England at the World Cup. Stones has it all about his game and although £30 millions seems a lot, you need to put that in to perspective and see it as an investment, he’ll be a long term player to follow in the shoes of Terry and be here for many years.
Next up, some news on our own players. Oscar has announced that his future is with Chelsea as far as he is concerned to squash rumours of a move to Juventus. Mohammed Salah is apparently wanted on a permanent deal by Liverpool and Leicester are keen to loan Nathan Ake from Chelsea.
Ake has been handed the number 6 shirt by Chelsea this season, perhaps indicating that he may well have more than just a squad role to play. The young Dutchman is a versatile player who is excellent for squad depth all over the park, I’d like to see him stay and get more chances this season.
Finally, it appears that Manchester United are in the drivers seat for Barcelona’s Pedro, according to ESPN, who also say that Chelsea are still in for the Spaniard who has already confirmed that he has some important offers on the table.
I believe the ball is in the players court and he will take his time to chose his next move, but Chelsea certainly have an offer on the table.
That’s it for now Blues, but remember to follow my Twitter here for the very latest Chelsea news @cfcneteditor
