Good morning Blues and welcome to Friday’s transfer news update from CFCnet, where we take a look at the latest Chelsea transfer news and rumours surrounding the Stamford Bridge club.
Some of the rumours today are quite frankly laughable, but let’s have a look at the sources behind them and see the latest….
Apparently Chelsea are going to make an offer for Cristiano Ronaldo. The reports have surfaced from Spanish publication AS, who are actually normally not that bad in terms of reporting transfers. But I feel this one is pretty far fetched and won’t happen.
They claim that owner Roman Abramovich wants to bring in the Portuguese world star and will pay £70 million, funding it by selling Eden Hazard who is wanted by Real Madrid. Baring in mind Ronaldo is 30 years old and Chelsea have a policy of buying young recently, I cannot see such a deal going through. I feel that if Ronaldo does return to the Premier League it won’t be just yet and it will be with Manchester United.
Staying on the subject of 30-year old big names, Chelsea are also emerging as surprise contenders to sign Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney. Although I’m not sure how they are reporting this as a surprise, there is no secret of Jose Mourinho’s admiration for the England International and Chelsea have tried to sign him previously not so long ago.
These reports have come from a recent SkyBet offering 7/1 on Rooney joining Chelsea. Then of course off the back of that, the papers have made up their own stories on a potential move.
This one would not surprise me as much as Ronaldo though, baring in mind what I mentioned above and the fact Chelsea’s forwards are abysmal so far this season. I can see Rooney wanting out of Old Trafford in an attempt to reignite his own career and overturn his fortunes, it might be exactly what he needs. I’m not so sure it would be what Chelsea needs, although having said that – I would rather have him in the fray than Radamel Falcao, but I don’t think he’d be happy to be a backup striker.
Meanwhile, according to Tutto Mercato, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has contacted Lazio to enquire about their winger Antonio Candreva. Another player who is nearing the 30 mark at the age of 28.
Once again though, although not always reliable, this source tends to produce some good results with rumours so there could be some substance to this. The Italian International is unlikely to see out his remaining three year contract in Serie A and is keen on playing in England.
Finally, troubled defender Branislav Ivanovic is the subject of interest from Internazionale. I am not sure whether Jose Mourinho has finally lost faith in a player who has easily been the worst performing in his squad this season, but I can certainly see him moving away and a replacement coming in.
