Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has been lavish in his praise of rising star Billy Gilmour, with the Scottish youngster emerging as one of the standout performers as the pre-season tour gets into full-swing.
Gilmour, still only 18, was given a 45 minute run-out in Chelsea’s 4-0 victory over Irish club St Patrick Athletic and his performance didn’t go unnoticed by Lampard who knows a thing or two about making a midfield position his own.
Speaking to Chelsea TV via the Sun, the manager praised the youngster and followed up by challenging Billy Gilmour to continue his form into the season ahead;
In the second half: Billy Gilmour. He’s had a brilliant trip and has shown real personality at the level that he’s played for a young lad in these two [pre-season] games.”
He’s been great. I just hope Billy keeps pushing on with that this season.”
The Scot has yet to make any senior first-team appearances, having risen through the Blues’ academy, but if these two games on tour are anything to go by, this upcoming season could be the chance to see what the midfielder can do – be it on-loan or within the Chelsea first-team.
