Much has been talked about the need of signing a new striker upfront since the last season was about to finish. Edinson Cavani and Radamel Falcao were the center of talks since then. But since the latter has already signed up with Monca, Cavani is the lone ‘big’ name in the department.  €60 million being the release clause set for him which looks too much to ask for. Mario Gomez who is now set to join his new club Fiorentina soon and Lewandowski to join Bayern in 2014 ; Fernando Torres and Demba Ba already being in the squad and Lukaku to be given a chance to prove too. So, here I will focus on other options in the striker department for Chelsea .

Gonzalo Higuain
If the rumors are to be believed, he will sign Arsenal. But he hasn’t signed yet, and he might not. He’s a bit unwanted at Madrid too. So, CFC should make something of this opportunity and try to sign him. There were reports of Higuain and Mourinho not being happy with each other but if they agree to work together, he is a good choice. He scored 18 goals and had 9 assists and took 109 minutes on an average for one goal compared to Torres’s 322. We should keep him as a last option in case we couldn’t get a new striker at all.

Strengths — Strong, good finisher, key passer, long balls.
Weakness — Poor offside awareness, ariel duels, Likes to tackle.
Market Value — 22-27 Million 20-22 Million €.

Luis Suarez
Hardly anything good has been said about this player who is always surrounded by controversies. Luis always had terrific seasons with his club. He was responsible for Liverpool’s team being in the 5-7 ranking in the table. He scored 30 goals in all competitions for Liverpool and assisted in 13. He could well be a so called ‘diver’ but his abilities with the ball cannot be ignored. He averages 128 mins per goal which is really less. His incident with Ivanovic is still fresh. It would be hard to get him from Liverpool at cheap cost and he’s still banned which means he will spend the first one fourth of the season not with the squad. His market value is about 35 Million €.

Strengths – High Stamina, finisher, dribbles well, two footed, free kicks, offside awareness.
Weakness – Dives often, short tempered.
Market value — 35-37 Million 20-22 Million €.

Alvaro Negredo
The 27 year old Spaniard has been a very good goal scorer in the La Liga but was always overshadowed by Messi , Ronaldo and Falcoa’s numbers. He scored 31 goals for Sevilla in the past season and assisted in 5. He averages 122 mins per goal. He is really good at headers and can be very deadly on his day. Man City have already launched a bid for him.

Strengths – Finishing, Powerful Headers, Long Balls, Doesn’t dive into tackles, Good offside awareness.
Weakness – Not good defensively, not good with Right foot.
Market value — 20-22 Million €

Roberto Soldado
A very good striker for his club and country, the Spaniard averages 122 mins per goal . He scored 31 goals in the past season for Valencia and assisted in another 6. He is a complete forward who can be used as a striker and also as a man behind him.

Strengths — Two Footed,  Holds the ball, good passer and finisher.
Weakness — Could lose his calm at times, ariel duels.
Market value — 24-28 Million €
